Where do I find my past tax information?

You can get your past tax information from the IRS, or you can get it from the tax professional or tax preparation software you used to file your taxes.

The IRS has two options for retrieving your past tax data. One is free, and one requires an application fee payable to the IRS.

How to get your past tax information from the IRS
  • Free option – You can get a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS containing past tax information for free. To request your transcript, follow the instructions here.
  • Paid option – You can also get an actual photocopy of a past tax return from the IRS, however this option is not free. To request a photocopy, follow the instructions here.

The other option is consulting the tax professional or preparation software that you used to file your past taxes.
